Au Revoir Luna! September 19

Dear Mr. Man in the Moon... I am sad to report that this will be my very last moon post. I have learned so much about the moon through observing it over the past month. I have seen the moon as a waning gibbous and a waxing gibbous, and I even got the pleasure of experiencing a blue moon and a new moon! This is a drawing of the moon from last night, September 19.

Milky Way Moon September 18

Dear Mr. Man in the Moon..... I have really enjoyed tracking the moon and getting to see the various phases it takes on. This is a drawing of the moon on September 18, and it is in the waxing phase.

Growing Moon! September 17

Dear Mr. Man in the Moon.... It has been such a long time since I have seen the moon in the waxing phase. The moon looks like it has flipped, since in the waning stage the left side of the moon was visible, but now since it is waxing, the right side is visible. This drawing is from September 17.

New Moon!! September 16

Dear Mr. Man in the Moon.... Tonight the moon is brand new!!! I have to say, I have been looking forward to the new moon, even though I knew I wouldn't be able to visibly see it, I am excited to watch the moon grow or wax into a full moon! This post is from September 16.

Moon Change Up... September 15

Dear Mr. Man in the Moon.... This has got to be the smallest I have every seen the moon. This is the last night before the new moon phase occurs. Tonight the moon truly resembles a fingernail sliver. This is the last night of the waxing moon. This is a drawing of the moon on September 15.

Tiny Moon September 14

Dear Mr. Man in the Moon.... We are reaching the end of the waning stage. Just one more day, and the moon will be in the new moon phase. This is a drawing of the moon from September 14.

Lucky Number 13! September 13

Dear Mr. Man in the Moon.... its September 13, you know what that means? In exactly ten months from today I will be getting married!! Yay! The moon is a waning crescent, getting smaller every day. I am excited for the moon to start over and be in its waxing stage, which means it will be growing towards a full moon!

Shall I Say Sliver?? September 12

Dear Mr. Man in the moon... I have not been able to see you over the past few mornings because of the heavy cloud coverage! The moon is in the waning crescent phase and is just a few days away from the new moon phase. This is a sketch of the moon from September 12.

That Ole' Moon September 11

Dear Mr. Man in the Moon.... that moon is getting smaller every night. This is because it is in the waning gibbous phase. When the moon is waning it means it is getting smaller, because it is rotating towards becoming a new moon. When there is a new moon, we cannot see the moon from Earth due to the location of the moon and the light reflecting off of the back of the moon. This is a sketch of the moon from September 11, 2012 at 5:00 a.m. Although this is a sketch from September 12, it is the sketch of the moon for September 11, since the moon is not rising until at least 3:00 a.m. this week.

Moon lit night... September 10

Dear Mr. Man in the Moon... You sure are making me tired, having to snap pictures of you at wee hours of the night/morning. This is a picture of the moon that was taken at 5:10 a.m. this morning. The moon is a waning gibbous crescent, and continues to go smaller as the moon prepares for the new moon stage.

Moon Pie... September 9

Dear Mr. Man in the Moon... Your appearances these days are getting a little too late, so I am having to make a sketch of you since I am already asleep most of the time when you rise. This sketch of the moon is from September 9, 2012 at 4:00 a.m. The moon is still in the waning gibbous phase, and is continuing to grow smaller.

Roll Tide kinda moon September 8

Dear Mr. Man in the Moon.... did you know that the tide won today? Upon arriving home, I saw a crescent moon such as this one drawn above. I had to make a sketch of the moon, because the trees were blocking my cameras view. The moon is a waning crescent moon. This picture is an interpretation of what the moon looked like on September 8, 2012.

Howlin at the Moon Friday September 7

Dear Mr. Man in the Moon, Friday night around 11:00 I had an encounter with the moon. This is the picture that I took. The moon is still in the waning phase, meaning that it is getting smaller.

Waning or Waiting??

Dear Mr. Man in the Moon.... tonight September 5th, you were supposed to rise at 9:53 p.m. Needless to say, I have been sitting in my driveway for twenty minutes waiting on you to make your debut. Tonight the moons phase was supposed to be a waning gibbous, but I was not able to see the moon so I cannot describe what it really looks like. The moon may make an appearance long after I have dosed off into RPM sleep.... ok I am trying to be scientific here.... work with me! I am disappointed in the moon to say the least.

Two hours later.... 11:45... the moon decided to come out. The moon was in fact a waning gibbous moon.

Moon Where are You??

Tonight, Tuesday September 4, 2012, there is heavy cloud coverage that has prevented me from viewing the moon. I could only see a faint light shining from the moon, behind the clouds.

Barkin at the Moon

Dear Mr. Man in the moon.... I feel like you have been a lost cause over the past two night, because I have not been able to find you! I am pretty sure that your absence is due to the heavy cloud coverage that Isaac has passed onto us... how sweet of him. I am not positive, but according to my calculations and my observations, it is a new moon tonight. Therefore, if it is a new moon, I would not be able to see the moon anyways, even if there was could coverage. So I am here to say that I have not seen that ole' moon in "many moons" ok, in 48 hours... same thing... right? Happy mooning and maybe we will have better luck tomorrow!!

Blue Moon I Saw You Standing Alone..... August 31

Dear Mr. Man in the Moon.... Thursday, August 30, you were looking a little blue! Well actually there was a "blue moon" that night but the moon did not actually look blue. The Following picture is what the moon actually looked like Thursday night.

What a blue moon actually refers to is the occurrence of two full moons in the same month. The let blue moon happened in December of 2009, and the next one is scheduled to happen three years from now in July 2015. According to famous astronomer Neil DeGrasse Tyson, "A blue moon is just a second full moon. The average time the moon takes to complete a cycle of phases is 29.5 days. Every month except February can have a second full moon," Tyson explained.
"Chances of a full moon on the first of the month, like we had this month, is about 1 in 30. So blue moons happens about once every 30 months. About 2 1/2 to 3 years. Not really that rare, my friend."

Its a Wonderful Night for a Moon dance.... August 30

Dear Mr. Man in the Moon... Last night, August 30, it was a little hard to see the moon since hurricane Isaac was in the way. There was heavy cloud coverage, and there was a big ring of clouds around the moon. I was always told if the moon has a cloud ring around it, it meant it was supposed to rain the next day. I have no idea if this is scientific, or just my mother pretending to be James Spann. Maybe I will have better luck tonight!

Mr. Moon August 28

Dear Mr. Man in the Moon..... This picture is from Tuesday night August 28, and was taken at 9:00 p.m. The moon is so mysterious... because in this picture one would think it was a full moon, but in real life the moon was not quite full. The following picture is a sketch of what the moon looked like to the human eye.

Can You Believe....

Dear Mr. Man in the moon.... Can you believe we put a man on the moon?? Its amazing to look up at that big moon and think about how humans have actually been on that big ole planet that looks like a bunch of spilt milk. Well... tonight the moon is a crescent shape, just like last night, it is directly above my house. Today is August 23, and it is 7:45. I decided to check on the moon a little earlier tonight to see if its position was any different than last night. I have to say, I was a bit disappointed to see that ole moon in the same position and shape as it was last night. Happy mooning.....

First Moon Sighting

Dear Mr. Man in the moon.... Last night, which was August 22, I took this picture of the moon. It was a crescent shape and it was right over the roof of my house.

Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon.
The little dog laughed to see such fun
And the dish ran away with the spoon!
